MAR 6: This week in Philly repertory film

FRI March 11, 2011
International House, 7:00 PM
TVC mastermind Pinky Carnage in person!

More like pick of the year!  I saw Pinky Carnage (aka Derrick Beckles, creator of Adult Swim’s Totally For Teens as well as director of a ton of incredibly impressive music videos for hipster-type indie bands) do his thing live at a Cinefamily event in L.A. a few years back and have been working ever since to bring him to Philadelphia.  Expect two hours worth of segment montages that will feature some of television’s worst public access shows, embarrassing performances by celebrities, oddball local news stories…think YouTube-type viral videos if the site was around in the 70s and 80s.  And none of what Pinky shows live is available on YouTube so it’s gonna be a special night filled with cringe-heavy laughter.  Highest possible recommendation for fans of everything.  View TVC clips here.

Additional screenings of note:
$2 will get you a small popcorn, soda, and entrance into the 1934 Bette Davis classic Of Human Bondage (MON, 1:00 PM, Ritz Center 16); the FREE Unknown Japan series wraps up with a screening of family-friendly Japanese sci-fi fable Hinokio: Inter Galactic Love (WED, 7:00 PM, Bellevue); local filmmaker Andrew Repasky McElhinney presents rare Hollywood classics The Last Flight and Background to Danger for FREE (THU, 8:00 PM, Rotunda); take an artsy journey through the history of music with Ne Change Rien (SAT, 7:00 PM, International House).
