Unseasonable Blossoms at Shofuso

SAKURA_smThis thursday (August 15th) Shofuso Japanese House and Garden of Fairmount Park is hosting the premier of a fellow Cinedelphian. Aaron Mannino’s experiemntal documentary, titled La Vie En Sakura is an evocation of Philadelphia’s over 2,000 Sakura and other flowering trees. Less an exposition and more of a poem, La Vie appeals to the senses to create a complete portrait of the Sakura throughout the seasons. While also exploring aspects of written, spoken, and signed language, La Vie is a love letter to these colorful emblems of communion between Philadelphia and Japan, fleeting as they are.

The evening will include a light reception at 6pm, followed by the screening outdoors at their Historic Sakura Pavilion with live musical accompaniment at 7pm. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Be sure to come, and register online beforehand! The film runs one hour. The event is $10. Directions can be found here.
