Theatrical releases for Friday June 24

Buck
(Ritz Five) A surprisingly moving documentary on real life horse whisperer Buck Brannaman.  Well worth your time.

Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop
(Ritz at the Bourse) Road doc that follows Conan on his post-firing nationwide comedy tour.

Viva Riva!
(Ritz at the Bourse) The winner of six African Academy Awards concerns a crafty hoodlum’s activities in the lawless streets of a Central African town.

Rejoice & Shout
(Ritz at the Bourse) Exhaustive documentary on the history of African American gospel music.

A Better Life
(wide) Real-life familial drama concerning a gardener in East L.A. who wants to steer his son away from the thug life.  I’ll always support director Chris Weitz for his work in the brilliant Chuck & Buck despite his directorial failings (The Golden Compass; Twilight: New Moon).

Bad Teacher
(wide) Raunchy high school comedy with Cameron Diaz in the titular role.

Cars 2
(wide) Pixar’s talking cars return.
