Hiway Theatre presents selections from FirstGlance Hollywood

From the release:

Big things come in small packages: Hiway Theatre prepares to show indie films from the First Glance Film Festival 12 [Hollywood Edition]

The Hiway Theatre is the sole East Coast venue for the First Glance Film Festival—a bi-coastal film festival that originated in Philadelphia in 1996.  While the Hollywood edition takes place in Burbank, CA, the Hiway will be the only other venue to show selections from this year’s Hollywood fest.

“As an independent theater, we strive to offer content that cannot be seen at the multiplex,” Hiway executive director Fred Kaplan-Mayer reports, “and this festival, which truly does give a ‘First Glance’ at quality independent films, is unique.  Among the shorts and features you will not only experience up and coming talents but also veterans from the small and big screens.”

Case in point:  the opening short on April 20th, Five Stages of Grief, features Jason Ritter and Bob Balaban – the former is a veteran of series TV [Joan of Arcadia, Parenthood] and the son of the late John Ritter and the latter has been a character actor in a number of films, most notably Gosford Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Best In Show.  The writer/director of the short is up and comer Jessica Brickman, a former staff writer for TV shows Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Dirty Sexy Money.

Others familiar actors included in the selections showing at the Hiway include Minka Kelly [Friday Night Lights], Freddy Rodriguez [Six Feet Under], and Ray Wise [Twin Peaks, Robocop].

But the real appeal of this exclusive engagement is not who you’ll recognize but the fact that, as Kaplan-Mayer relates emphatically, “You can only see these selections at the Hiway this weekend—unless you happen to be in Burbank!”

The Hiway will present three shorts, two features and one documentary during the weekend of April 20 through the 22.  Regular, evening prices apply.  Hiway members pay just $5 per ticket.  Details and tickets are available at
